I find the following films well-crafted, recommendable, consistently impactful, personally timeless, and definitively influential to my own life. In no particular order:
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
United 93 (2006)
American Beauty (1999)
Se7en (1995)
Minority Report (2002)
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
L.A. Confidential (1997)
Road to Perdition (2002)
Heat (1995)
Blade Runner (1982)
My list will no doubt evolve as my tastes evolve. But for now, these films have lingered in my heart as favorites for a better part of the decade.

Hi Craig,
I have discovered your blog and I am enjoying reading through your entries.
One of my favorite questions to ask people is, “What are your favorite movies?” – it was great to see your list. I think a person’s list can inform you about them, and the passion with which people will typically talk about this subject is fascinating in and of itself. Yes, the list does change over time. However, most films have stayed on my list for decades. You’re so right that they “linger in your heart”.
Separate question. You’re a movie guy. . . .what is your opinion of The Fall (2008)?
It is on my list.
What great plans do you have for your next adventure that starts tomorrow? I’m excited about your possibilities!
Much love,
Jill Watson

Hey Jill! Glad you’re enjoying my blog.
I thought “The Fall” was a stunning visual poem. I don’t think the little girl was strong enough to carry the film and the narrative was a bit lost in the scope of its settings. But overall, I remember it fondly for its beautiful handle on landscape and composition.
As far as the adventure ahead, we’ll see. I am very curious by the technology world beyond and plan to study it in depth. Companies like Apple and Google are changing the world in ways Hollywood could never dream, and I want to learn how.
